Should driving instructor training be for everyone
Ten years ago driving instructor training was not easy to be found even if bigger cities. My mother participated in a basic driving course at that time and she says driving instructors didn"t have to fight for customers. Her instructor was an old nervous man and he would even yell at her sometimes when she had no idea how to behave on the road. She passed he driving test but it was only because the examiner turned out to be much more understanding. Today almost everyone can become a driving instructor. This means competition between driving schools is growing and instructors will have to put more effort into their work. They will have to develop effective teaching methods and be more polite to their customers. On the other hand, it is also important to consider whether the requirements for future driving instructors are appropriate. At the moment in many European countries anyone who is a healthy individual and has a secondary school diploma can take part in driving instructor training. Maybe psychological tests should be the crucial factor. Some people are simply too impulsive to teach. As far as I know, psychological tests are only a formality in many countries and true personality traits can by hidden be some participants.
